There's a local radio station here running a NFL pick 'em game contest, and they are dropping the lowest 4 totals from the season. So I had the idea to drop the lowest 1 (or more?) weekly total from our game. The only difference is that since each week isn't valued the same, dropping the lowest may not really be of value. But the whole point is that you can miss 1 week by accident or join 1 week late and still get in and have a decent shot at the competition.

The computer would automatically figure out the lowest weekly total and remove it.

Any feedback or thoughts on doing this? It allows a more forgiving game since picking 16 weeks in a row is difficult.

I think it's a good idea, and that is how I've seen it in other locations.

As someone who forgot to make picks for week 1, and would otherwise basically have no shot at winning, I like the idea. :D

Maybe something to "even out" each week would be missed picks subtract the value of the game...or worth -1 or something like that. So, a missed week would be considered all games were missed, so however many points that week was worth would be removed from the user's score.

Ehh, I dunno, as much as I'd like the lee-way for missing week 1, I do think that people who submit picks every week should be rewarded. I dunno...I'm trying to think of an alternate solution, but I guess I'd vote no on this, for now.

It sounds like it's something for next year when every week can be made worth the same value.

I agree. Wouldn't want to change the rules now.

Along this same line, when I realized I had missed week 1, I decided not to do Pick'Em this year and didn't do week 2. Had this been a rule earlier, I would have done week 2 and finished the year out.
